Recoleta

NEIGHBOURHOOD DESCRIPTION

Recoleta is a fabulous neighborhood known for its European architecture, top restaurants, and luxury designer shopping including Fendi and Ralph Lauren, Etiqueta Negra, and other local high-end boutiques, and of course the Patio Bullrich indoor shopping galleria. Walking through the neighborhood, you'll also stroll by high-end furniture shops, bakeries, chocolate and wine stores (with international shipping), and several park plazas surrounded by cafes, coffee houses, and ice cream shops. Clean and sophisticated, Recoleta is an absolute haven from the noise and roughness of the city. Luxury spas and gyms are also right in the neighborhood.

With the outbreak of yellow fellow in 1871, the wealthy families that had lived in San Telmo moved to Recoleta and to surrounding areas like Palermo. You can see French architecture and palatial houses througout Recoleta.

The most famous tourist attraction is the cemetery, with Evita Duarte de Peron´s tomb. Next to the cemetery is a tourist strip with bars and restaurants. Borges and his literary and artist friends used to hang out at La Biela, a traditional restaurant and café. Across the way is the newly remodeled cinema complex "Village Recoleta."  You can also sit down and enjoy a café americano or a nice glass of wine at Plaza Vicente Lopez, a few blocks away. Alternatively, head north in the direction of Av. del Libertador, where you can take maté to the park, go rollerblading, or play pick-up football...

Recoleta offers best of both worlds: the neighborhood between Av. Coronel Diaz and Av. Pueyrredon is pretty calm and the parks in this area make you feel that you are not even in a city. The other side of Av. Pueyrredon offers you an unique combination of beautiful houses and exclusive shops and of course the famous cemetery. From here it's just a 10 minute walk to the Obelisco on Av. 9 de Julio.
